Marvel could be eyeing a new face to sharpen Wolverine’s claws in the upcoming X-Men reboot. Jeremy Allen White has reportedly sat down with the studio to discuss a potential role in the franchise. The reported talks may start with a brief cameo, before becoming a bigger part down the road.
Jeremy Allen White rumored to have met Marvel for X-Men cameo
The latest rumor from Jeff Sneider of TheInSneider states that Jeremy Allen White is the contestant for one of Marvel’s biggest casting puzzles. With the studio gearing up to relaunch the X-Men on the big screen, fans are already buzzing about who will inherit Wolverine’s claws.
White could reportedly make a brief first appearance before potentially stepping into a more substantial role in later Marvel projects.
At 5-foot-7, White could bring a more comic-accurate physical profile to Wolverine than Hugh Jackman, who stands taller. Marvel’s clawed mutant is famously compact in the comics, measuring just 5-foot-3 and weighing roughly 200 pounds.
White already has major acting credentials under his belt, having won an Emmy for his standout performance in The Bear. He also made waves as Lip Gallagher in Shameless. Still, the reported casting talks come after a rough run at the box office. Both his Bruce Springsteen biopic and The Social Reckoning reportedly failed to find an audience.
Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere pulled in $45.2 million worldwide, with both domestic and international markets contributing more than $22 million each. Meanwhile, The Social Reckoning has managed an estimated $16.9 million globally, including $9.13 million from North American theaters and $7.83 million overseas.
Neither film has exactly set the box office on fire. Thus, landing a major Marvel role could offer White a fresh shot at blockbuster success.
Marvel has yet to spill the beans on the reported meeting or reveal who will next sport Wolverine’s claws, so fans should take the casting buzz with a pinch of salt. The studio is also keeping details about the mutant’s place in the upcoming X-Men reboot under wraps.
