Melodi Hankins joins Fox Illinois’ morning news team
Melodi Hankins is taking on a new position at Fox Illinois, joining the station’s morning news team after previously covering its evening broadcasts.
She is now working alongside Bethal Miles and meteorologist Matt Bednar on the network’s two morning programs. The team will appear on NewsChannel 20 Sunrise from 5 to 7 a.m. on ABC WICS/WICD, followed by FOX Illinois Sunrise from 7 to 9 a.m. on FOX WRSP/WCCU.
Hankins said the move will allow her to continue working with viewers in Springfield while taking on a different part of the broadcast day. “Springfield has truly become home, and I’m excited to continue serving this community in a new role. I look forward to waking up with viewers each morning and sharing the stories that matter most,” she said.
The anchor also expressed her excitement over the new assignment, saying, “Joining the AM team is an incredible opportunity and a milestone in my career. I’m honored to take on this new role and continue growing as a journalist. There’s something special about being part of someone’s morning. I’m excited to join the AM team and connect with viewers as they prepare for the day ahead,” she said.
The station also shared its response to the appointment, stating, “We’re excited to bring Melodi’s energy and passion for storytelling to our morning shows.”
Hankins joined Fox Illinois, also known as WRSP-TV, in May 2026. She previously anchored the station’s 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. newscasts. Originally from California, she graduated from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
