The Voice has made a significant change to its competition format, sending home more than half of the contestants who had reached the final stages before the Live Shows. The November 2 episode introduced a new round called “Cut Week,” which saw 16 of the 28 remaining singers eliminated. The decision left the four coaches with difficult choices as the competition moves forward.
The Voice Season 30 introduced its first-ever ‘Cut Week’
The Voice introduced a new stage in its competition on November 2, with “Cut Week” bringing a major reduction in the number of contestants ahead of the Live Shows. The episode saw 16 of the 28 remaining singers eliminated, leaving 12 artists with guaranteed places in the next round.
The new round gave Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Riley Green and Queen Latifah control over which members of their seven-person teams would continue. Each coach could advance two singers directly, without asking them to perform again. The other five contestants on each team then took the stage to compete for the one remaining place. This meant that every coach had to make a final decision based on the performances delivered during the episode.
For Team Queen, Latifah chose Mia Knight and BigCountry. After hearing the remaining five singers perform, the coach awarded the team’s third position to Lillie Kolich. Levine secured places for Lexi Stephens and Connor Closs on Team Adam Levine. With only one more position available, he ultimately chose Dakota Cohen to join them in the Live Shows.
On the other hand, Green’s selections for Team Riley Green included Cade Mower and Ferryn & Brinkley. Joe Henley earned the final place on the team. Clarkson chose Koumba Diallo and Anna McElroy as the first two members of the team. Following the performances, she selected Brianna Cameron.
One position in the Top 13 remains open for an audience-selected contestant. Viewers can vote for one of the 16 artists who were not selected, and the singer with the most votes will join the 12 selected contestants. The complete Top 13 will begin the Live Shows on November 9.
