A royal expert has reportedly slammed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over their quasi-royal engagements following their UK visit. For those unfamiliar, the Sussexes visited Nottingham on October 15 for a proxy royal engagement. Harry and Meghan interacted with locals, fans, and volunteers from several charitable organizations.
Now, according to a new update, the couple is facing criticism for their royal-style UK visits.
Why the Sussexes’ public appearances have prompted criticism
Royal expert Alicia Liberty berated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over de facto royal engagements after their move to the UK. Liberty revealed that no matter how hard they try, the Sussexes can never really escape from their royal past (via Daily Express).
The royal expert shared that Harry and Meghan left the UK to chase fame and fortune in America back in 2020. Six years later, the Sussexes still appear to be lost in their dreams and ambitions. Liberty pointed out that six years later, the couple is now embracing the very same royal engagements they once walked away from.
The royal expert pointed out how Harry and Meghan smiled at everyone, shook hands and clicked photos with the fans and locals in Nottingham. Liberty revealed that the Sussexes attempted to create quasi-royal engagements similar to actual royal engagements.
Liberty wrote: “Now, I applaud anyone who uses their platform to support worthwhile causes, and their charity work deserves recognition. But surely I’m not alone in noticing the irony of Harry and Meghan recreating elements of the very public life they once chose to leave behind?”
Liberty also emphasized the fact that Harry has to work on rebuilding relations with his estranged father and older brother. He will need to be patient, engage in difficult conversations and accept that the process could take a long time. Additionally, Harry needs to accept that the monarchy has also changed, the institution has progressed, and everyone has moved on.
