Schofield argued that if Meghan knew about the allegations while serving as a working royal, she should have alerted the royal family. She also said she could not identify anyone connected to the royal household who knew about the letter or the allegations.
Schofield added that Meghan could have pursued the police to make sure they were investigating the claims. Alternatively, she could have told the royal family so that work could happen “behind the scenes.” She also said that she agrees with many of the people on the panel. The commentator further suggested that, in that scenario, Meghan could have used her platform to champion vulnerable children instead of criticizing the royal family on Netflix.
Schofield’s remarks are her opinion and were framed conditionally, beginning with “if Meghan knew.” They do not establish that Meghan deliberately withheld information. Meghan has said she was made aware of disturbing allegations against her father in 2018 through a letter that was shared with her. She said she was assured the allegations were being investigated.
