ABC Affiliate Reporter Leaves After 1 Year, Lands New Gig

A Central Texas TV reporter surprised viewers by saying goodbye after just over a year on the job to head back to his roots. The journalist secured a new reporting and anchoring role at an ABC-affiliated station in his home state.

Michael Courier leaves ABC’s KVUE, joins WZZM station

Michael Courier has left Austin’s KVUE to join WZZM 13 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The television journalist announced his departure from the ABC-affiliated station on October 9. Specifically, Courier shared the news through a Facebook post as he bid farewell to Texas.

Courier originally joined KVUE’s Daybreak team as a morning reporter in July 2025. During his time at the station, he regularly filled in at the anchor desk. Additionally, he covered breaking news, local government and community events across Central Texas.

In his farewell message, Courier expressed deep gratitude for his time in Austin. He wrote, “Although my time in Austin was relatively short, the impact this city and my coworkers had on my life is truly difficult to put into words.” He further added, “I will forever be grateful for EVERYONE in ATX.”

Prior to KVUE, Courier originally hailed from Bay City, Michigan, and started his career in El Paso, Texas. He spent three years at KVIA-TV as a morning reporter and traffic anchor. Moreover, he served as a fill-in news anchor while covering stories for the station. Before entering television, he studied journalism at the Colorado Media School in Denver.

After living in Texas for four and a half years, Courier and his wife ultimately decided to return north. He explained that the couple chose to “head back north and go home to Michigan.” Subsequently, the pair relocated to Grand Rapids for his new position.

Courier now serves as a morning reporter and weekend anchor at WZZM 13. The station operates as an ABC affiliate in the Grand Rapids market. Meanwhile, Courier expressed excitement about the career change and getting to know his home state better. His move marks a return to the Midwest after spending his entire television career in Texas.
