CBS Affiliate Meteorologist Quietly Exits Less Than a Year After Joining

A well-known meteorologist has quietly exited a CBS-owned station less than a year after her much-anticipated return to the market. The station and the anchor have remained silent about the departure, leaving viewers without answers.

Meteorologist Dagmar Midcap leaves CBS-owned WUPA

Meteorologist Dagmar Midcap left CBS-owned WUPA in Atlanta less than a year after joining the station. She joined CBS Atlanta in late 2025 but stopped appearing on air in May 2026. The station pulled her biography from its website in October 2026.

Neither Midcap nor WUPA publicly addressed her departure. CBS Atlanta News Director Shawn Hoder refused to discuss the matter. Midcap also ignored requests for comment.

WUPA originally hired Midcap as an evening meteorologist during the launch of its local news operation. CBS moved its affiliation from Gray Media’s WANF to WUPA in 2025 and began producing newscasts. The station recruited her alongside several other recognizable personalities to build the new newsroom.

Her return to Atlanta attracted attention because she had previously worked at WGCL, now WANF, from 2008 to 2010. She left the market after her boyfriend’s death and relocated to California. She then spent roughly 12 years at NBC-owned KNSD in San Diego before pursuing environmental reporting and wildlife conservation work.

In a March 2026 interview, Midcap credited Hoder’s workplace culture for her decision to return. Hoder praised her viewer connection, saying her on-air personality reflected how she interacted with people off camera. Midcap also expressed interest in covering environmental issues, climate change and animal welfare at the station.

However, her assignments remained focused on weather forecasting. Her absence became noticeable by late spring, and by July 2026, she had been off air for over a month. Meteorologist Orelon Sidney took over evening forecasts during that period. On Oct. 14, WUPA promoted its weather team on social media, featuring Jonathan Myers, Troy Bridges and Sidney. The station has not announced a replacement.
