Monica McNutt has finally shed light on the viral Taylor Swift hot-mic moment. The pop icon attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals in June. During the hot-mic moment, members of the broadcast team were trying to figure out whether the singer was sitting courtside. When she was finally spotted, McNutt, a host covering the New York Knicks, said, “She’s not a Knicks fan, get out of here, girl.” The remark immediately went viral and drew considerable criticism from Swift’s fans, also known as Swifties.

McNutt later apologized for the remark and discussed the incident in detail during a recent episode of The Pivot podcast. During the segment, Ryan Clark pointed out that she had faced considerable backlash from Swift’s fans over her comments. He further asked her about the reaction. McNutt explained that she had no idea the moment would become so significant, adding that she learned she had gone viral after the game.

Speaking about her remark, McNutt said viewers should be able to understand a “little colloquialism,” explaining that she did not mean the words literally as “get out of here.”

She explained, “But I had just seen you at a Knicks game with your man in no Knicks gear, and all the celebrity Knicks fans I am familiar with, blue and orange down baby, it ain’t no question. So, literally it’s a throwaway comment.” The sports analyst also said she was mystified by the entire situation, particularly by how the brief comment made its way to such a large audience.
