Prince Harry’s ‘Biggest Regret’ About Princess Diana’s Death Came Down to One Phone Call — Report

Prince Harry is reflecting on one of the most painful memories of his life. In a new interview, the Duke of Sussex opened up about his biggest regret surrounding Princess Diana‘s death. He admitted that everything came down to their brief final phone call before her tragic passing in 1997.

Prince Harry shared how losing his mother at age 12 continues to shape his life today. He offered these reflections during a conversation with GQ while discussing his grief on the new “MasterClass” episode. “I’ve had a mom that was taken away from me too soon, and I have spoken very openly about one of my biggest regrets is that last phone call I had with her,” Harry said.

The Duke of Sussex added that, had he known it would be their final conversation, he would have spoken to her differently. “If I’d known it was the last call with her, how different that conversation would have been. And I’m the one that has to live with that,” he said.

Harry explained that, at the time, he was simply a 12-year-old who wanted to play with his cousins. That decision later became a source of guilt. However, becoming a parent himself helped him view the situation differently and eased some of the emotional burden he had carried for years.

The Duke also reflected on the public nature of his mother’s death. He said people still approach him to share where they were when they heard the news of Diana’s passing on August 31, 1997. Those conversations, he explained, remind him how deeply the tragedy affected people around the world.

Harry said his experiences with grief now motivate him to help others. Through the “MasterClass” episode and public discussions, Harry actively encourages people who are navigating personal loss. He aims to show that healing remains possible even after life’s most devastating moments.
