Sydney Sweeney & Kirsten Dunst’s The Housemaid’s Secret Video Comes With a Great Announcement

Sydney Sweeney is returning to the world of The Housemaid as its sequel officially begins production. An announcement video confirms that production is underway, with Kirsten Dunst joining the cast ahead of the film’s 2027 release.

Lionsgate announced on October 15, 2026, that production had begun on The Housemaid’s Secret. Paul Feig returns to direct the sequel, which adapts Freida McFadden’s second novel in the series. The first film became a worldwide hit, grossing nearly $400 million at the box office.

The announcement video shows cast members and filmmakers on set. Sharing the update on Instagram, the studio wrote, “Bet you’ve been waiting for this. The Housemaid’s Secret – now in production.”

The Housemaid’s Secret introduces a new mystery for Millie

The sequel follows Millie as she takes a job caring for a woman she is never allowed to see. She soon discovers what lies behind a locked door, uncovering secrets more dangerous than her own. The film adapts McFadden’s second novel, placing Millie in another household filled with secrets.

Alongside Sweeney and Dunst, the sequel features Paul Anthony Kelly as Douglas Garrick and Brittany Snow as Marybeth. Stephen Kalyn plays Brock, while Michele Morrone reprises his role as Enzo. Rebecca Sonnenshine returns to write the screenplay after adapting the first film.

Feig reunites with producers Todd Lieberman and Laura Fischer for the sequel. Sweeney also returns as a producer through her Honey Trap banner. Lionsgate has scheduled The Housemaid’s Secret for a theatrical release on December 17, 2027.

The studio has also expressed interest in adapting more stories from McFadden’s The Housemaid universe. McFadden’s series also includes the novel The Housemaid Is Watching and the shorter work The Housemaid’s Wedding. However, Lionsgate has not announced any further adaptations.

The sequel will look to cash in on the success of The Housemaid, which was well received by critics and audiences. The 2025 film holds a fresh 74% Tomatometer score and a 92% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
