The Traitors: The Faithful Story explores the origins and evolution of the award-winning reality show. Directed by renowned filmmaker Robin Bextor, the film features exclusive interviews with the show’s creator Marc Pos and historians.
The Traitors is based on the Dutch reality series De Verraders, whose concept was partly inspired by the brutal story of the Batavia. In the documentary, creator Marc Pos reveals that the 17th-century mutiny and massacre surrounding the Batavia inspired the concept behind the game.
“Historians and TV experts explore the psychology, strategy and universal appeal at the heart of the much-loved series, dissecting how the ambitious concept led to one of the most successful entertainment franchises of the modern era,” the logline of the documentary adds.
The U.K. and U.S. editions of The Traitors are both produced by Studio Lambert, for the BBC and Peacock, respectively. The reality competition features contestants playing a social-deduction game similar to Mafia or Werewolf. One faction becomes “Traitors,” while the remaining contestants are “Faithful.” The Faithfuls must work together to identify and banish the Traitors. Those who survive to the end can win a share of the prize money.
