The Vampire Diaries and We Were Liars creator Julie Plec is bringing another drama to streaming. Her upcoming tennis series has secured a major update, with a legendary former champion joining its creative team.
As reported by Deadline, Prime Video has ordered Rally to series, with eight-time Grand Slam singles champion Andre Agassi set to executive produce. The project comes from Universal Television, Entertainment 360, and Amazon MGM Studios. Plec will write, showrun, and executive produce the drama, marking her second series at Prime Video.
What to know about Julie Plec’s tennis drama Rally
Rally takes place at an elite tennis academy where young athletes face intense competition and personal sacrifices. The story explores how the pursuit of victory can strain friendships and other important relationships. Unlike a typical sports drama focused only on winning, the series also examines what players risk losing along the way.
The idea came from Entertainment 360 executive Guymon Casady’s experience watching his children train at IMG Academy. In an official statement, he stated, “The inspiration for Rally came from a deeply personal place – watching my kids train and navigate the intense pressure, dedication, and heartbreak of elite junior tennis at the IMG Academy. To build this world alongside a master storyteller like Julie Plec, and to ground it in the unmatched, authentic perspective of a true legend like Andre Agassi, is a remarkable privilege.”
Agassi will bring his experience as a former professional player to the production. This is his first producing role on a scripted series. He will work alongside fellow former tennis professional and business partner Justin Gimelstob, who also serves as an executive producer. Agassi said, “I am eager for Justin and I to lend our experiences to help the incredible Rally team.”
Plec’s We Were Liars is also returning for a second season on Prime Video. A release date and cast details for Rally have not yet been announced.
