Prince William and Kate Middleton may be raising the future King of Britain. However, their children reportedly use far more ordinary names once they step into the classroom. Instead of relying on their royal titles, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis follow a long-standing royal tradition. The strategy helps keep their school life as normal as possible.
George, Charlotte and Louis reportedly leave their formal royal titles out of daily school life
Officially, the public knows them as Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales. However, the royal siblings reportedly go by much simpler names during the school day.
According to Hola!, the children use the surname “Wales” at school, making them George Wales, Charlotte Wales, and Louis Wales. The reported practice allows them to blend in more naturally with classmates while leaving their royal titles outside the classroom.
The surname comes from their parents’ titles as the Prince and Princess of Wales. Before King Charles III ascended the throne in 2022, the children reportedly used “Cambridge” as their school surname. They adopted the moniker because William and Kate were then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
George has recently entered a new chapter in his education after starting at Eton College, following in his father’s footsteps. Meanwhile, Charlotte and Louis continue attending Lambrook School.
The naming tradition is not unique to William’s children. William and Prince Harry also reportedly used the surname “Wales” during their school years, reflecting their father Charles’ title as Prince of Wales at the time.
George has also reportedly picked up a few playful nicknames over the years. During his time at Thomas’s Battersea, classmates allegedly shortened “Prince George” to “PG.” The nickname later turned into “PG Tips,” referencing the popular British tea brand, before eventually becoming just “Tips.”
Meanwhile, Charlotte has reportedly been affectionately called “Lottie,” while Louis has earned the nickname “Lou Lou.”
The reported school names offer a glimpse into William and Kate’s parenting strategy. Ultimately, the couple continues balancing royal tradition with giving their children as normal a childhood as possible.
