Prince William chose not to comment when a reporter asked him about his uncle Charles Spencer’s new memoir about Princess Diana. The Prince of Wales faced the question during a public appearance in London. This came after “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister” drew attention for its claims about King Charles and the royal family.
Prince William maintains his silence when reporter questions him about bombshell Diana memoir
Prince William encountered the question on September 22 during a visit to ActOne, an independent cinema in west London. According to a video obtained by HELLO!, a reporter asked him directly: “Sir, how do you feel about your uncle’s book? Have you read it?”
William did not respond. Instead, he continued with his planned visit and entered the cinema, where he spent around an hour meeting young filmmakers and representatives from the Film and TV Charity. The Prince also took part in a more hands-on moment during the visit. He reportedly went behind the counter and served popcorn to customers who had arrived to watch a film.
“Swan Song: Diana, My Sister” officially came out on September 22 and has already attracted significant attention because of Charles Spencer’s accounts of Diana’s life and death. The memoir includes Spencer’s claim that King Charles appeared “giddily elated” after learning about Princess Diana’s death. Spencer also alleges that Charles told him Diana would be forgotten “soon enough.”
The book also claims that members of the royal family failed to follow some of Diana’s wishes surrounding her funeral. Those claims have placed renewed attention on the complicated history between Spencer and his former brother-in-law.
Buckingham Palace addressed some of the allegations before the memoir’s official release. A statement on behalf of King Charles acknowledged that grief can affect memories of painful family events. “While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment, and color memory in ways others do not recognize, even many years after such a loss,” the statement said.
