Doria, however, remains in the United States. The 70-year-old grandmother celebrated her birthday on Wednesday, September 2, just days after Meghan, Harry and the children arrived in England. Doria has lived close to the Sussexes for the past six years while they raised their family in Montecito, California.
Meghan reportedly has no plans to let the distance weaken their relationship. “Meghan plans to see her mom regularly,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They’re incredibly close.” Doria has played an important role in several major moments in Meghan and Harry’s family life.
