Prince William and King Charles recently attended a royal engagement in Scotland. The day held added meaning, as the service took place on what would have been the late Princess Diana’s birthday. William, known as the Duke of Rothesay when in Scotland, marked the day by carrying out royal duties and continuing to support the causes close to his late mother’s heart.
Prince William steps out with King Charles and Queen Camilla for royal outing
Prince William made a public appearance on Tuesday, the day his late mother, Princess Diana, would have turned 65. She died in a 1997 car crash in Paris when Prince William was 15, and Prince Harry was 12.
During Royal Week in Scotland, the Prince of Wales joined King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince Edward for the Order of the Thistle service in Edinburgh’s St. Giles’ Cathedral. For the ceremony, he wore the Order’s signature deep green velvet robe and a black hat featuring bold white ostrich feathers.
According to PEOPLE, he arrived at the venue alongside his uncle, Prince Edward, shortly before King Charles and Queen Camilla. The King and Queen’s entrance was marked by a Royal Salute from the Royal Company of Archers, The King’s Body Guard for Scotland, and the national anthem.
The yearly event pays tribute to the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Scotland’s highest chivalric order. Limited to 16 Knights and Ladies, the Order honors men and women for outstanding service to the nation. Its members include King Charles, Queen Camilla, Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, and William. Queen Elizabeth opened the order to women in 1987, a decision made during her reign.
Prince William marked another milestone in his homelessness campaign on June 30, an effort inspired by his mother. Launched in 2023, Homewards is the 44-year-old Prince’s UK-wide initiative to end homelessness. He spent part of the day in Aberdeen, a city in northeast Scotland. It’s a flagship location for his Homewards project, where new approaches to tackling homelessness are being trialed.
