A new rumor suggests that an underutilized mutant from the 20th Century Fox movies may finally get their time in the spotlight in the upcoming MCU X-Men reboot. As of the time of writing, the lineup is unconfirmed. Nonetheless, casting reports and speculation keep emerging, continuing to drive conversation.
Emma Frost rumored to be in Marvel’s X-Men reboot
Emma Frost will reportedly appear in the X-Men film reboot from Marvel Studios, according to a new rumor. This comes from familiar scooper MyTimetoShineHello, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Emma Frost will be in the X-Men reboot.” However, this news should be treated cautiously, as the information does not come from official sources.
The rumor comes shortly after they alleged Sydney Sweeney got cast. Before this, the insider claimed that Marvel was eyeing the actress for a role in X-Men. While they didn’t specify the part, they did mention earlier this year that she was under consideration for Emma Frost. Notably, neither Sweeney nor Marvel has addressed the reports.
Frost has previously appeared in the 20th Century Fox films. Although an Omega-level telepath capable of rivaling Professor X and Jean Grey in most adaptations of the character, she ended up underutilized. This is because she did not show up in many projects outside of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and First Class.
The X-Men reboot is currently in development, with Jake Schreier attached as director. He previously helmed the ensemble movie, Thunderbolts. Meanwhile, Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are penning the screenplay.
The core cast is not yet finalized. However, rumors have been surfacing, linking prominent names like Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton, and Hunter Schafer to the movie. Schreier regarded such casting reports as unofficial, stressing he and the creatives were following a “process.”
Plot details are unclear, though Schreier teased a fresh creative direction. While speaking with Screenrant, the Paper Towns filmmaker shared, “I think really just what we’ve been talking about more than anything is how do we make it feel new, and how do we go places that feel like we’re succeeding [our predecessors]?”
He continued, “Obviously, this series has done such incredible things and succeeded in so many ways, and done so many beautiful things. Like, what are some places we can go, and some areas of the lore that we can explore where it feels like we’re taking people to a new place.”
