Samara Weaving may be heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to a new report, the actress has been cast as Emma Frost in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men film. If confirmed, the role would mark another major step in the studio’s plans to introduce a new generation of mutants. Marvel has not officially announced the casting.

Deadline reported that director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige selected Weaving after meeting with several actresses for the role. The search for Emma Frost was one of the hardest aspects of the casting process, the outlet said. The final list of actresses tested shortly after the Fourth of July holiday. Weaving’s audition was the best of the bunch, the report added.
Emma Frost first appeared in Marvel Comics in the 1980s as a powerful telepathic mutant and a member of the Hellfire Club. She later became one of the X-Men’s most prominent allies. January Jones previously portrayed the character in X-Men: First Class.
Fans have waited for a new X-Men movie since Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2019. Deadline also reported that the project gained momentum after Marvel hired Schreier to direct last spring. The studio later brought in Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo to write the script. Marvel has continued meeting actors as it builds the new Mutant team.
The reported Marvel casting caps off a busy year for Weaving, who reprised her role as Grace MacCaullay in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come and also appeared in Over Your Dead Body and Carolina Caroline. If confirmed, Emma Frost would become her first major role in the Marvel franchise and could make Weaving one of the new faces of Marvel’s X-Men universe.
