Marvel is reportedly preparing to hand Gambit to a new actor, and the first name has surfaced. Multiple scoopers say the studio will recast the Cajun mutant for the MCU’s X-Men era, and the news has fans buzzing about who will take over the role.
Drew Starkey rumored for Gambit in X-Men reboot
Insiders claim Drew Starkey is one of the names in the mix to play Gambit. Cartier Films exclusively confirmed that a new actor will step into the role, but described Starkey as a rumor at this stage, with nothing official.
Scooper James Mack backed that account in a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “By the way, the Drew Starkey as Gambit news is also true, and everything has already been finalized for him to debut in X-MEN. @CartierFilms is correct.”
Marvel has not announced anything, so fans should treat the claims as unconfirmed. The same reports also leave room for a surprise. Some talk suggests the part could go to a relative unknown instead.
The OG scooper reports that Marvel wants to recast so Gambit sits closer in age to Inde Navarrette’s Rogue. Gambit and Rogue share a long history in the X-Men comics, so the studio appears to want the two characters to feel like a believable pair on screen.
However, the recast does not erase Channing Tatum’s place in the franchise yet. Reports indicate he remains the Gambit audiences know, and he is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. That means Tatum’s version of the character will still show up before any new actor takes over.
Moreover, the timing matters because it suggests a handoff rather than an abrupt exit. Tatum plays Gambit in the next big team-up, and the new actor would then possibly carry the character into the X-Men reboot.
All in all, fans who want the latest on Gambit and the X-Men should watch for an official word from Marvel. Casting news in this franchise has moved quickly, so a formal confirmation could land at any moment.
