Donald Trump‘s recent onstage interaction with Erika Kirk has sparked a new controversy involving the president. Trump greeted Charlie Kirk’s widow during a recent Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event by kissing her on both her cheeks, drawing criticism online.
Donald Trump criticized over onstage kiss with Erika Kirk
On Friday, April 17, Donald Trump attended TPUSA’s “Build the Red Wall” rally at Dream City Church in Phoenix, Arizona, with Erika Kirk welcoming the president onstage.
Before calling him up, the TPUSA CEO showered Donald Trump with praise, noting, “No matter what they throw at him, he perseveres in the face of adversity because the mission is too important.” After arriving on stage, Trump embraced Erika Kirk and proceeded to plant kisses on each of her cheeks.
An analyst on X (formerly Twitter) broke down the interaction as concerning, claiming that Kirk’s discomfort was easily visible. “While the mainstream media might try to spin this as a grieving widow’s nerves, the body language in this clip from the recent TPUSA event tells a completely different story. It wasn’t a handoff; it was a sprint for the exit,” Project Constitution wrote in their body language analysis.
“Watch the rigid half-hug Erika offers as President Trump approaches. The discomfort is palpable. As he goes for a peck on the cheek, her face adopts a look of pure, white-knuckle awkwardness,” they added.
Another X user noted, “The only good thing about this, is that a portion of the MAGA base has caught on to the charade and it sickens more than any liberal could.” Other commenters took a less serious approach to their criticism. One made a reference to Trump’s remarks about a recent social media post that he made containing an AI-generated image by writing, “Is he dressed as a doctor or Jesus?”
