Donald Trump Made a Bold Statement That Even Iran Is Denying

President Donald Trump claimed that Iran’s leadership had requested a ceasefire from the United States. Within hours, Iranian officials publicly rejected the assertion. It’s an added dispute between the two sides as tensions over the ongoing Iran war continue to escalate.

Donald Trump claims Iran requested ceasefire

Trump said on his Truth Social platform that Iran had reached out to the United States with a request for a ceasefire. He did not name a specific official, but he described the outreach as coming from “Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors.”

He added that the U.S. would only consider such a request once the Strait of Hormuz is “open, free, and clear.” Trump also struck a hard tone in the same post, writing, “Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!” The statement came just hours before Trump was to give a speech in Washington in which he claimed the war is going to end within two to three weeks.

Iran rejected the claim soon after. Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, a spokesperson for the office of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, said no such request had been made and insisted Iran’s position had not changed.

“The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding national defense of the country’s integrity against the aggression of enemies and the conditions for ending the imposed war has not changed, and no attention is given to the delusions and falsehoods of criminals,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He added, “The people of Iran are determined, steadfast, and united in defending their homeland. Unity is the key to our victory.” The back-and-forth comes as the Iran war continues to rattle global energy markets.
