Jason Kelce is aiming to pull off a full basketball dunk in just 30 days, but Travis Kelce isn’t convinced. The two brothers recently discussed the retired Philadelphia Eagles legend’s aspirations on their podcast, New Heights.
Jason Kelce is joining a 30-day dunking program
Jason Kelce revealed on the latest episode of New Heights that he’s gearing up for an intense month-long dunking experiment. The former Philadelphia Eagles star, who played at a listed 306 pounds and now appears noticeably lighter during his ESPN work, said he wants to document the journey from start to finish.
“I’m about to pop my achilles, I’m gonna go try and dunk tomorrow and pop my [expletive] achilles,” Kelce joked as he introduced the idea on the podcast. He added, “I wanna do a video where I try to dunk over 30 days. I’m gonna try and dunk, and you know I can’t dunk.” According to Jason, he has been “close” before and thinks he’s “not that far off.” His plan includes weight-room training, tests aimed at improving his vertical jump, and even attempts with different types of balls to build momentum toward a real dunk.
However, Travis Kelce wasted no time in giving Jason a reality check. “Time and athleticism has caught up to you… To the point where I think you have missed the sweet spot for dunking,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end said. Jason spent 13 NFL seasons as an All-Pro offensive lineman, which is arguably the position least associated with jumping. Centers are trained to stay grounded, anchor blocks, and create lanes, not launch themselves toward a rim. Despite his athleticism, dunking wasn’t part of the job description. As Travis put it, “You’ll have a f—ing bungee cord on their back for this one.”
Whether the effort ends in a triumphant slam or a trip to the doctor, it remains unclear how much someone can truly increase their vertical in just 30 days. However, the spectacle alone promises great content.
