Star Wars: Starfighter Rumor Reveals Eva Mendes’ Role in Ryan Gosling Sci-Fi Movie

Brand-new reports about Star Wars: Starfighter claim Eva Mendes will be a part of the sci-fi movie. These rumors place the actress next to Ryan Gosling in the movie, even hinting at her alleged role in this upcoming film.

Recently, Knight Edge Media “exclusively confirmed” that Mendes will appear in Starfighter alongside her real-life husband. This comes after a year of rumors about the actress being seen on the sets of the movie, which had its production ongoing in the summer of 2025. Mendes is expected to have “just a minor role” in the movie as “an intergalactic cantina owner,” per the outlet.

Additionally, the outlet also reported that Mendes is “not expected to return as reporter Roxanne Simpson” from the original 2007 Ghost Rider movie. “That could change, but it’s not expected at this time,” the outlet claimed. The MCU’s upcoming adaptation of the character will be led by Gosling.

The Star Wars role would mark a rare return to acting for Eva Mendes

Assuming these reports are true, Eva Mendes‘ latest role in the Star Wars universe would be major milestone for the fan-favorite actress. Over the years, Mendes has mostly stepped away from the cameras to raise her family with Gosling behind the scenes.

The actress has essentially retired from the film industry since 2014, when she starred as a cabaret show performer in Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River. Except for a voice role as a Yoga Instructor in Bluey in 2021, Mendes has largely kept away from the big screen.

Speaking about her retirement in 2022, she told Variety: “I got tired fighting for the good roles. There just was a point where I thought, ‘I’m going to create my own opportunities and become a producer on things and create my own material,’ but it just didn’t feel worth it to me.”

“There are more opportunities for Latina actresses now [in 2022], but when I bowed out 10 years ago I wasn’t being offered things that weren’t specifically Latina. It is exciting that things are different now, so who knows what I will do in the future. But right now, I’m keeping it in the home with my kids,” she continued.

Plus, she even said in 2022 that the only way she could be convinced to return to acting would be if it were alongside her husband, Ryan Gosling (via the U.K.’s Sunday Times). So there might be some truth to these reports about Mendes’ return to the screen in Starfighter. Still, until official confirmation arrives, fans might as well take these updates with a pinch of salt.

Star Wars: Starfighter releases in theaters in the United States on May 28, 2027.
