Avengers: Doomsday may leave Doctor Strange’s spell from Spider-Man: No Way Home untouched. The upcoming MCU film could draw on the events of the 2021 film while focusing on the franchise’s expanding multiverse storyline. However, how closely the two films will connect remains uncertain.
During a recent Q&A session with The Cosmic Circus, Alex Perez addressed whether Doomsday would recontextualize No Way Home. “There will also be limited recontextualization of No Way Home other than the continuation of Doctor Strange’s multiversal story,” Perez explained. He also noted that Tom Holland is “not in Doomsday at the moment.”
How Avengers: Doomsday could continue Doctor Strange’s multiverse story after No Way Home
Perez’s comments suggest that Doomsday will not extensively revisit the events of No Way Home. Instead, the film could continue exploring the multiverse through Strange’s experiences, leaving Peter Parker’s story largely separate from the upcoming Avengers conflict.
In No Way Home, Peter asks Strange to erase the world’s knowledge of his secret identity after Mysterio exposes him. When the spell begins pulling people from other universes into the MCU, Peter ultimately asks Strange to make everyone forget him altogether. The decision saves reality but leaves Peter alone, with MJ and Ned unable to remember him.
The consequences of that decision remain significant for Peter, but Perez’s remarks do not suggest that Doomsday will reverse them. Instead, Strange’s understanding of alternate realities could become relevant to the conflict surrounding Doctor Doom.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness already explored the dangers of traveling between realities. It also introduced incursions, which can destroy entire universes. These events established the risks associated with the multiverse and could provide relevant context for the upcoming crossover.
Marvel has not confirmed whether Doomsday will directly address the spell or reveal further consequences of Strange’s actions. For now, Perez’s comments remain a rumor, not an official plot announcement.
Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
