Woody Allen’s New Movie Moves Forward With Filming Start Date After Long Delay

Woody Allen’s next movie finally has a new filming date. The update has come after its planned spring production was delayed. The untitled project will now begin shooting in Madrid on October 5.

According to El Mundo, the production is scheduled to start filming in the Spanish capital on that date. The movie will be written and directed by Allen and shot entirely in Madrid.

The project will become Allen’s 51st feature as a director. It also has backing from both the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council.

What else do we know about Woody Allen’s new movie?

The film has no confirmed cast or plot details yet. A working title, Wasp 2026, has been reported, while the final title must include “Madrid” under the production agreement. Both Madrid authorities are contributing €1.5 million each. Their combined €3 million investment accounts for part of the movie’s estimated €12 million budget.

Madrid will also be an important part of the film rather than simply a backdrop. The production must feature recognizable local landmarks and shoot at least 15% of its scenes outdoors. The project is expected to create more than 1,200 direct jobs and over 2,000 indirect jobs during production. Wanda Vision, Gravier Productions and 3Six9 Studios are involved in the production.

Allen’s previous film was Coup de Chance, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2023. The French-language movie was his 50th feature and was filmed entirely in France. Its plot was about Fanny, a married woman whose chance meeting with a former high school classmate led to an affair. Her wealthy husband eventually suspected the relationship and took dangerous steps to protect his marriage.

The new project continues Allen’s recent work across Europe. He previously filmed Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Spain and Rifkin’s Festival in San Sebastián.

As of now, the October 5 start date is the next major step for the project. Details about the cast and story are yet to be announced.
