Ultra HD Netflix 4K Streaming is Now Available

Netflix is now able to stream 4K video, early adopters of the new technology will be pleased to hear.

4K streaming is now available for a few select programmes, including the second season of House of Cards. However, 4K streaming will only be available with TVs purchased in 2014, as TVs purchased before this year likely lack the H.265/HEVC decoder that is required to stream in ultra-HD using the service.

Netflix 4K streaming will also require a good internet connection, with the company stating that an average speed of 15.6 Mbps would be necessary in order to streak 4K content. This means that UK Netflix users would struggle, as the average broadband speed in the region is estimated to be around 7Mbps.

4K is double the width and height of standard HD and also boasts four times the number of pixels. TVs that are 4K compatible are currently quite pricey, though sub-$1000 TVs are expected to roll out at some point in the near future.
