Why Won’t Mark Zuckerberg Let You Block Him on Facebook?

If you try to block Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook, either via the website or the mobile app, chances are you won’t be able to do so. Although other verified accounts and pages still allow the user to block them, the Facebook CEO’s page is nigh-on impossible to block from your news feed. However, there’s a good reason for this.

If you visit Zuckerberg’s Facebook page and attempt to block him, you’ll more than likely be greeted by the following message:

This was pointed out today by Twitter user Rob Manuel, who suggested that Zuckerberg won’t allow users to block him as a result of his “fragile ego,” with the tweet promptly doing the rounds online.

However, it’s not the first time this omission has been brought up. Over five years ago, the now-defunct site BlockZuck.com revealed the improbability of being able to block Zuckerberg on the billionaire’s own site, leading to various reports from a number of outlets. This growing interest led to Facebook releasing an official statement to Mashable, with it reading:

“This error isn’t specific to any one account. It’s generated when a person has been blocked a certain large number of times. In very rare instances, a viral campaign will develop instructing lots of people to all wrongly block the same person. The purpose of this system is to protect the experience for people targeted by these campaigns. We’re constantly working to improve our systems and are taking a closer look at this one.”

So there you have it. Facebook users being unable to block Zuckerberg isn’t as a result of some algorithm specifically preventing them from doing so but is rather a result of so many people trying to block the site’s founder all at once. But with that being said, it’s still curious that Facebook has yet to rectify this issue in the six years that have passed since the site first released its statement. Maybe Zuckerberg preferred being unblockable?
