13 Independent Films You Shouldn’t Miss This Summer

Let’s get one thing straight: you don’t need us to remind you that Jurassic World is coming out this summer. Studios are spending more money than you will ever make in your entire life advertising every major studio release coming up from now until the end of August. You won’t be able to escape the marketing campaigns for Terminator: GenisysAnt-ManFantastic FourMinions, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation or Inside Out, so we’re not going to make their jobs any easier. This is not the usual Summer Movie Preview.

Instead, we’re going to focus on the independent films that won’t have the same level of marketing clout behind them, the films we’ve either already seen at film festivals (and can assure you right now, at this very moment, are absolutely awesome), or that have a pedigree that would make the makers of Pixels ashamed of themselves. Because the big movies are more-or-less guaranteed to have their fair shot at your hard-earned money (or at least, your parents’ hard-earned money). These movies are fighting an uphill battle for your attention, and they’re probably more likely to impress you than San Andreas is.

So grab your calendars and get ready to fill them, because these are The 13 Independent Films You Shouldn’t Miss This Summer. You can thank us in the fall.
