The Original Cast Returns For ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Miniseries on Netflix

Last month, reports emerged that director and screenwriter David Wain had finally gotten a revival of “Wet Hot American Summer” off the ground at Netflix. Wain directed and co-wrote (with Michael Showalter) the original Wet Hot American Summer feature film in 2001, which went on to become a cult comedy classic.

Deadline is reporting that filming of an eight episode “Wet Hot American Summer” miniseries began this week. More importantly, the report indicates that Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Joe LoTruglio, Christopher Meloni, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Marisa Ryan, Molly Shannon, Michael Showalter and Kevin Sussman will all return for the miniseries.

Exactly how Netflix intends to reunite that cast isn’t clear, given that most of them went on to become much bigger stars after appearing in Wet Hot American Summer. But it’s likely that the “Wet Hot American Summer” miniseries will take the “Arrested Development” approach and shoot around the schedules of its stars.

Showalter and Wain are writing the “Wet Hot American Summer” miniseries, with Wain also set to direct the project. No release date has been announced, but a 2016 premiere seems highly probable unless the project is rushed through production and released this year.
