Shaw Media recently announced that they have acquired the new adventure thriller series â12 Monkeys,â which is slated to air in 2015 on Showcase. Based on the 1995 Terry Gilliam-directed film, â12 Monkeysâ stars Aaron Stanford (âNikita,â âX-Men: The Last Stand,â âX2â) as time-traveller Cole.
The 13-episode series from Universal Cable Productions began filming in Toronto this summer.
The show was Inspired by the classic blockbuster film, which commemorates its 20th anniversary next year and starred  Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, and Brad Pitt (who won a Golden Globe for his role and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor). â12 Monkeysâ explores the provocative story of a time traveller from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race.
The time travel series also stars Amanda Schull (âSuits,â âPretty Little Liarsâ) as Cassandra Railly; Kirk Acevedo (âDawn of the Planet of the Apes,â âThe Black Donnellysâ) as Ramse; and Noah Bean (âNikita,â âDamagesâ) as Aaron Marker. Recurring cast include Tom Noonan (âDamages,â âHell on Wheelsâ) and Canadian Emily Hampshire (âRookie Blue,â âCosmopolisâ).
