Shaw Media Acquires Thriller Series 12 Monkeys

Shaw Media recently announced that they have acquired the new adventure thriller series “12 Monkeys,” which is slated to air in 2015 on Showcase. Based on the 1995 Terry Gilliam-directed film, “12 Monkeys” stars Aaron Stanford (“Nikita,” “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “X2”) as time-traveller Cole.

The 13-episode series from Universal Cable Productions began filming in Toronto this summer.

The show was Inspired by the classic blockbuster film, which commemorates its 20th anniversary next year and starred  Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, and Brad Pitt (who won a Golden Globe for his role and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor). “12 Monkeys” explores the provocative story of a time traveller from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race.

The time travel series also stars Amanda Schull (“Suits,” “Pretty Little Liars”) as Cassandra Railly; Kirk Acevedo (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Black Donnellys”) as Ramse; and Noah Bean (“Nikita,” “Damages”) as Aaron Marker. Recurring cast include Tom Noonan (“Damages,” “Hell on Wheels”) and Canadian Emily Hampshire (“Rookie Blue,” “Cosmopolis”).
