Space Acquires New Zombie Drama Series Z Nation

Space recently announced that it has acquired the brand-new zombie drama series “Z Nation” from The Asylum, producers of the television movie and social media sensation, “Sharknado.” Expected to air this fall on Space, this 13-episode, one-hour series is the brainchild of “Dead Zone” Executive Producer and Eureka Co-Executive producer Karl Schaefer, who also serves as Executive Producer and Showrunner. Scheduled to begin production this summer, “Z Nation” is an action-horror series that depicts the epic struggle to save humanity after a zombie apocalypse. The Asylum’s current project, “Sharknado 2: The Second One,” premieres Wednesday, July 30th at 9pm on Space in Canada and the U.S.

“This is a captivating new addition to our upcoming fall schedule – a terrific series from the trailblazing team that brought viewers ‘Sharknado,'” said Catherine MacLeod, Senior Vice-President of Specialty Channels and Bell Media Production, in a press release. “Space is always aiming to deliver the most exciting, and out-of-the-box genre programming, and ‘Z Nation’ fits right in.”

“For us there is no choice in Canada other than Space, which has been home to our slate of outrageous, sci-fi, action-adventure titles since the beginning,” said David Rimawi, partner in The Asylum. “As we prepare to deliver to genre fans the unparalleled experience that will be ‘Z Nation, we are proud to have Space as our partner as we take this exciting, new step into series.”

Z NATION is an ensemble series taking viewers into a fully imagined post-zombie America. The series is set three years after a mysterious zombie virus has gutted the country and follows a team of everyday heroes tasked with transporting the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Casting announcements to follow at a later date.
