Guillermo del Toro: Hellboy 3 Unlikely

Interviewing Guillermo del Toro when he’s got a new movie coming out, in this case Pacific Rim, is like watching Community: you know you’re going to love it, but can’t shake the feeling there may be bad news ahead.

Del Toro is so popular right now that studios are lining up to get him to make movies. This has the effect of putting on the back burner sequels for his already beloved films. Case in point: in an interview with Crave’s Collider website, the director talked about how unlikely it is he will ever make another Hellboy movie.

“It’s very unlikely it’ll happen because you need things to converge so strongly.  [Producer] Larry Gordon, Universal, the rights, Ron [Perlman’s] and mine’s availability, [comic creator] Mike [Mingola’s] blessing; we have pieces of that, but we don’t have all of that.  You need so many things to confluence and then you need about $150 million.”

Pacific Rim opens this Friday, July 12, in North America.
