Drake had fans worried after dropping an emotional lyric about his father battling cancer on his new album Iceman. Turns out, Dennis Graham says the situation is not nearly as current as listeners initially believed.
The confusion started almost immediately after Drake released three surprise albums on Friday morning, including Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour.
Dennis Graham claims to be cancer-free after Drake album speculation
On the outro of Iceman track “Make Them Cry,” Drake raps, “My dad got cancer right now, we battlin’ stages,” before adding, “Trust me when I say there’s plenty things that I’d rather be facin’.”
But according to TMZ, Dennis Graham later shut down speculation while speaking with photographers outside Bar Jubilee in West Hollywood. Drake’s father reportedly explained he battled lung cancer “a long time ago” and has since recovered.
Dennis even described the news as “a miracle.” He reportedly added that he is now cancer-free and has cut back on smoking compared to previous years. He also thanked fans for the concern after the album lyric triggered headlines.
So basically, Drake may have been writing from memory instead of present-day reality.
Still, the vulnerable lyric instantly became one of the standout moments on Iceman, which appears far more personal than some fans expected. Throughout the album, Drake touches on family struggles, complicated friendships, money, and emotional exhaustion.
At one point, the rapper even reflects on helping loved ones financially while quietly questioning whether those relationships remain genuine.
Dennis Graham appeared to embrace the album buzz regardless of the confusion. Shortly after the release, he posted a photo hugging his son on Instagram alongside the caption, “The Ice Man and The Nice Man just doing what we do.”
Fans, meanwhile, are still trying to process the fact that Drake casually dropped three albums at once before breakfast.
TELL US — DO YOU THINK DRAKE’S LYRIC WAS MISLEADING OR WERE FANS JUST TAKING IT TOO LITERALLY?
