Turns Out This ‘Lizard’ Didn’t Need To Be Rescued Because It Was Really Just A Dirty Sock

Either way, I’m not touching it.

According to BBC News, a concerned family in Coventry, England recently called their local Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) chapter in hopes that they would be able to rush to their house and take care of the rare lizard that was hiding under a bed and freaking them out.

RSPCA officer Vic Hurr gladly obliged, but upon arriving at the family’s homestead, she determined that the rare lizard didn’t need to be rescued or “taken care of.” Probably the biggest reason? You guessed it: It wasn’t a rare lizard hiding under the bed but an absolutely filthy sock instead.

“It was around seven inches long and about two inches wide,” Hurr said. “It was protruding from the edge of the bed and it wasn’t moving at all. I got out my torch to see better and that’s when I realized it wasn’t a lizard at all, it was a pink stripy sock.”

Hurr also said the family was “mortified” after calling the RSPCA over a dirty sock, probably almost as mortified as we are over the cleanliness of their house.
