Azealia Banks Dropped From Headline Slot at Born & Bred Festival Over Racist Attack on Zayn Malik

Azealia Banks has been dropped from the lineup for Rinse FM’s Born & Bred Festival, taking place June 4-5 in London. The outspoken rapper verbally assaulted Zayn Malik on Tuesday night in a series of racist tweets, resulting in a statement from the festival.

Things got started when Banks, on Instagram, claimed Zayn was “mood boarding the fuck” out of her look. Zayn later posted a pair of dismissive tweets, which Banks took as a response to her post. She replied with several racist tweets, including a damning accusation of tokenism against his former band, One Direction.

That was only the beginning, as Banks then proceeded to engage in a spat with a 14-year-old Twitter user, who promptly humiliated the musician in a stinging barrage of well-played comebacks. Then she set in on U.K. Twitter users, promising to bring armed security to her Born & Bred performance when followers began questioning her presence on the bill.

In a statement, Rinse FM, said, “We have decided to cancel Azealia Banks’ headline appearance at Rinse Born & Bred. Rinse Born & Bred is a celebration of rave culture and has been created for EVERYONE. We celebrate inclusivity and equality.”
