Azealia Banks reveals she moved to Tel Aviv to work on a new album
Banks shared the news on X and opened up about her new home. “Moving in,” she wrote before admitting that the move once would have seemed impossible to her. “If you would have told me years ago I’d end up moving to Tel Aviv and liking it, I would have said you’re crazy,” she added. The 35-year-old entertainer also responded to people who questioned her decision to move so far from New York.
Banks explained that distance did not worry her as much as people might think. “Tel Aviv to New York is the exact same distance as New York to LA,” she wrote. She joked that people acted as if she had moved “to Australia.” Banks then revealed that she will be using her time there to finish her new album.
The rapper said she has found a music group that makes creating easier for her. “I’m 5 hours away and here making my album FINALLY,” Banks wrote. She said she found “some real camaraderie and some really cool music crew here.” Banks also praised Israel’s arts scene, calling it “really mature” and saying it has helped her create more freely.
Banks also shared some reasons she is comfortable working with the local music community.
She said people there do not hold back music stems or hold grudges over social issues. “This is the most creative I’ve felt in years,” she wrote. Banks ended her post with “Baruch Hashem,” a phrase that means “Blessed is the Name.” Her move now gives her a new home while she works on the album she has wanted to finish.
