Although Disney purchased Lucasfilm back in 2012, the new era didn’t really get started until Star Wars Rebels premiered in 2014. Under the guidance of several veterans from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, Star Wars Rebels has proven to be one of the best animated shows on television while successfully recapturing the tone of the original trilogy.
Last month, Disney XD renewed Star Wars Rebels for a third season. However, the second season isn’t over yet, and if the newest trailer is any indication, Star Wars Rebels isn’t holding a lot back for season 3!
In this trailer, Princess Leia makes her first appearance on the series while Darth Vader and Yoda also return with James Earl Jones and Frank Oz, respectively reprising their roles from the films! More intriguingly, the trailer appears to reveal that Ahsoka Tano will confront her former Jedi master, Darth Vader later this season. That’s a match up that fans have waited years to see!
But it’s not smooth sailing the crew of the Ghost. The trailer also teases Ezra’s temptation by the Dark Side, and an old master who appears to be none other than Darth Maul! At this rate, we may actually get to see the Darth Maul vs. Darth Vader dream battle that the films couldn’t deliver!
There’s also a callback to the recently released Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Ezra gets his hands on a classic lightsaber and a Sith temple is uncovered.
Star Wars Rebels season 2 will resume on Disney XD on Wednesday, January 20.
