Star Wars: Episode X director was working on another Disney+ TV show whose future remains uncertain. In an exclusive interview, it was recently revealed that the untitled project had been in development for months.
On October 16, 2026, Knight Edge Media revealed that Jon Watts was working on a secret, untitled Star Wars project for Disney+. Moreover, it was supposed to be eight episodes long, with Christopher Ford attached to the project. The duo was developing it as a western series, and a full writers’ room was hired in January, which ran through August 2026.
According to the source, Lucasfilm has not commented on the information. Hence, the untitled Star Wars series’ future remains uncertain as no release date has been provided yet. Watts is currently working on the upcoming Simon Kinberg movie Star Wars: Episode X.
Jon Watts already had a Star Wars show released on Disney+ in 2024
Since Watts and Ford were attached to the untitled project, it was assumed that the TV show they were developing was a sequel to their 2024 show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. However, this was not the case.
Skeleton Crew was released on December 2, 2024, on Disney+. It follows four children, Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel, from a safe home planet who get lost in a strange and dangerous part of the galaxy. They find a pirate ship called the Onyx Cinder and try to find their way home while meeting allies and enemies along the way. This show was set in the New Republic Era, running parallel to the timeline of The Mandalorian.
The sci-fi adventure series had 8 episodes. It starred Jude Law as Jod Na Nawood, Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Wim, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Fern, Kyriana Kratter as KB, Robert Timothy Smith as Neel, and Nick Frost as the droid SM-33.
Although Disney+ and Lucasfilm have not yet officially greenlit Season 2 of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the series has not been canceled either, leaving its status at a standstill.
