Star Wars Battlefront Won’t Feature Microtransactions, All In-Game Money is Earned By Playing the Game

It’s a little disheartening that this kind of thing is deemed “big news” these days, but EA and DICE should be applauded after stating that the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront won’t feature microtransactions of any kind, with all in-game credits instead being obtainable through the more traditional method of actually playing the damn game.

This revelation was made during an interview between Battlefront Design Director Niklas Fegraeus and GameSpot, with Fegraeus responding to a question regarding whether or not there are microtransactions in the game, saying: “The currency system is based on your game performance. The credits that you use to buy things in the game are earned. You play the game, complete challenges, and that’s how you get credits.”

When asked whether or not the only way you can obtain credits is by earning them in the game, he answered “absolutely,” adding: “[Microtransactions are] not part of the core design of how it works. This is a progression system based on your gameplay performance.”

On a day when we’ve also learned that Metal Gear Solid V will introduce an FOB insurance system into its online multiplayer component, a developer standing against the introduction of cheap money-grabbing tactics into their game in order to uphold its quality is commendable.

Hopefully EA and DICE uphold this viewpoint past Star Wars Battlefront‘s launch, and don’t punish us for praising them by introducing woefully overpriced DLC further down the line. We can but hope.
