First Trailer for Amy Winehouse Documentary Released and it’s a Tearjerker

The first trailer for the upcoming Amy Winehouse documentary, AMY, has been released, from the BAFTA-award winning team behind Senna.

The documentary, which makes use of unseen archive footage in order to tell the story of the tragic late singer, looks to be an emotional journey between her rise to fame, her struggles with coping with life in the public eye and her battles with substance abuse.

The trailer is narrated by Winehouse herself, and offers one particularly gut-wrenching moment when the Back To Black singer offers her thoughts on fame. “I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous,” she says. “I don’t think I could handle it. I think I would go mad”.

Gulp.

The film’s documentarian Asif Kapadia previously spoke of how it will look at the detrimental impact fame has upon an individual’s mental well-speaking. Kapadia said: “Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone’s attention. She wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell. But tragically Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious lifestyle.”

AMY will also feature previously unheard tracks written by the singer, with it set to release in UK cinemas on July 3rd. There’s no word yet on an international release.
