Grand Theft Auto V’s Latest Update Has Somehow Made its Graphics Worse

If you were playing Grand Theft Auto V on the PS4 or Xbox One yesterday and thought that something looked a little off, rest assured that it wasn’t your eyes deceiving you. After the title’s latest 1.08 update, it has been hit with an odd graphical downgrade that has left the world of Los Santos looking a little worse for wear.

The downgrade has noticeably worsened the game’s lighting, draw distance and even its collisions, with the exteriors of vehicles no longer realistically deteriorating after slamming into walls, trucks and the like. Thankfully, Rockstar has addressed this issue and have confirmed that it will be fixed in a future patch, with a message on their support site reading:

“We are aware of some graphical issues on the Xbox One and PS4 versions of GTAV after the most recent Title Update, and we are investigating a fix now. If you would like to receive an automatic email notification as soon as there is more information, please log into the Support Site and click Subscribe at the top of this page.”

It’s certainly a weird issue for the game to be struck with, but considering GTAV’s tumultuous history with anything pertaining to online play, it’s hardly a surprise that the game is struggling to cope with even a rudimentary title update.

Following the incredibly poor release of its GTA Online mode on last-gen consoles, the PS4/Xbox One remastered editions of the game then had to wait longer than expected for the much-anticipated Heists game type, which launched with its own set of unfortunate issues. While Heists mode is now relatively functional, it’s still suffering from some problems to this day including players often unable to join game sessions, server issues and more. It’s certainly improved since its release earlier this month, which saw many players unable to play the mode whatsoever, but it’s still baffling that Rockstar continues to struggle with these issues over a year into the game’s life cycle.

Hopefully Rockstar brings out a patch to fix its graphical downgrade sooner rather than later, though considering their history with delays regarding GTAV, we perhaps shouldn’t hold our breath.
