Super Smash Bros. is the Fastest-Selling Wii U Game Ever

The latest entry in the Super Smash Bros. series has proven to be a huge hit for Nintendo, with the company revealing that it is the fastest-selling Wii U game ever after shifting 490,000 units in the US in the three days it was on sale.

The sales figure accounts for both physical and digital copies of the game, with Nintendo also revealing that the entire Smash Bros. series has now sold over 14 million copies in the US alone. This news comes after the company revealed the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. had sold a whopping 2.8 million units, making it the biggest financial success on the handheld platform this year.

Sales for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U were tracked between November 21st to November 23rd, with Scott Moffit,  Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, releasing a statement regarding its superb launch.

Moffitt said: “The Nintendo holiday is off to a great start, but there’s a lot of work left to do and a few more surprises in store for our fans.

“With great deals coming on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and great content like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker launching next week, Nintendo will offer shoppers the best combination of fun and value this holiday season.”

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U garnered a perfect 10/10 score from us, with our reviewer Griffin Vacheron branding it a “serious Game of the Year contender.” It looks like the consumer consensus matches the critics’ opinions in this instance.
