The Civil Wars graced NPR Music on Thursday with a hauntingly captivating take on Elliott Smith’s “Between the Bars,” which you can now hear below. The track was actually recorded a while ago, with producers Rick Rubin and Charlie Peacock, but made its broadcast premiere on NPR yesterday.
The song is the title track from the duo’s forthcoming EP, which will be released digitally next Tuesday, February 11 on Sensibility Music/Columbia Records. Also featured on the EP are versions of Portishead’s “Sour Times,” Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” and The Romantics’ “Talking In Your Sleep” – so needless to say, we’re pretty excited to get our ears around this collection. The EP was previously released in physical form last November, as a limited edition 10” as part of Record Store Day’s Back to Black Friday.
The Civil Wars had previously announced a hiatus, but we’re hoping this release is a sign of rekindled activity between the notoriously contentious duo.
