Will Smith’s Wild Wild West is finding renewed success on streaming years after its theatrical release. According to FlixPatrol, the 1999 film climbed to No. 5 on Paramount+’s Top 10 movies chart in the United States on August 5, 2026. In the rankings, it outperformed several other films, including Extract, Wardriver, Get Hard, The Contractor, and Gravity.
Wild Wild West, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, arrived in U.S. theaters on June 30, 1999. The film follows former Civil War hero Jim West and U.S. Marshal Artemus Gordon after President Ulysses S. Grant assigns them to stop Dr. Arliss Loveless, a former Confederate scientist seeking revenge for losing the Civil War. As they travel from Washington, D.C. to Utah, the pair works together to stop Loveless and his dangerous machines. Along the way, they are joined by Rita, who helps them track down the villain.
Smith stars as U.S. Army Captain James T. “Jim” West, while Kevin Kline appears in the dual roles of Artemus Gordon and President Ulysses S. Grant. The cast also includes Kenneth Branagh as Dr. Arliss Loveless, Salma Hayek as Rita Escobar, Ted Levine as General “Bloodbath” McGrath, and several other supporting actors.
Upon its release, Wild Wild West received largely unfavorable reviews from critics and proved to be a commercial failure. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 16 percent critics’ score based on 130 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience score stands at 28 percent.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed $222.1 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of $170 million. This includes approximately $113.8 million from domestic theaters and about $108.3 million from international markets.
