Listen: Brother Ali Drops Surprise 10-Track ‘Left In The Deck’ Tape

Rhymesayers soulfire flowmaster Brother Ali has pulled a late-Summer Santa act for his fans this week, by way of a 10-track project produced by Jake One. The “Left In The Deck” tape runs in tandem with the kickoff of Ali’s War & Peace tour with Immortal Technique.

Ali’s latest offering, last September’s Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, was a stark and moving assessment of the cancerous lesions on the collective herd mind. It offered substantive ideas on compassion, love and community support through sometimes searing and often endearing observations on race, the catalyst for the Occupy movement, the hypocrisy of war and general social oppression in America.

The material found on Left In The Deck is a slight departure from such heavy material, though not altogether, given the man’s penchant for preaching sociopolitical wisdom. But one thing’s for sure – the man hasn’t been this excited about his own new sounds in quite some time.

Here’s Ali‘s statement on the project:

As we embark on the War And Peace Tour with my brother, Immortal Technique, I’m excited to release a new musical project. “Left In The Deck” is a collection of 10 raw, grimy recordings made in basements and hotel rooms around the world. This demo-tape style release was produced entirely by Jake One. It hasn’t been polished up for the market or cleaned for the radio. These songs were left in their original demo form and are intended only for my family of direct supporters. The beats are grimy and I feel like this is some of the best rhyming I’ve ever captured on tape. I want to release this directly to you.
