A wild Avengers: Secret Wars rumor has sparked hope for Mahershala Ali‘s MCU debut despite major setback. The actor was originally announced for a fan-favorite role back in 2019 at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Insider Blue Minutes has claimed that Mahershala Ali will reportedly make his debut as Blade in Avengers: Secret Wars. The scooper wrote that the actor may appear as a variant, but there will be no solo Blade movie featuring him in the franchise.
The rumor adds that despite Ali saying that he’s done with the role, due to his scrapped Blade film, he may show up in Secret Wars. According to Blue Minutes, “he’s keeping it as a secret. He already played his character in his animated series what if and now he’s ready to do this in live action. Get ready for it”
Marvel has yet to provide any confirmation on Blade’s involvement in Secret Wars. Hence, fans should take the new rumor with a grain of salt for now.
Speculation grows over Mahershala Ali’s MCU future after Blade setback
In an interaction with Deadline at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, promoting his new film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, the two-time Oscar winner revealed he actually prepared for his character following the Blade movie announcement seven years ago.
“I got to go train for a year, so at this point, I’m so grateful that they made a wonderful contribution to our film,” he said. He pointed out that the physical training for Blade came in handy for his latest film.
Notably, Mahershala Ali did an uncredited voice cameo as Blade in the post-credits scene for Eternals. As a result, fans were expecting his movie to come out sooner. However, the project witnessed multiple delays due to the lack of a director and writers. After changing the release date four times, Marvel eventually scrapped the movie.
Earlier this year, Ali shut down all the possibilities for his MCU debut following no major development on Blade. “I’m done. I’m doing this and anything moving forward. I’m over that. I’m done with that,” he said.
