Woman Gives Cop Silly Excuse for Why There’s a Meth Pipe in Her Pants

Some criminals just don’t know what to say when they’re confronted by the police. One woman was stopped by deputies in Florida because her bicycle looked to be unsafe. They then found a meth pipe inside one of the woman’s pant pockets, causing her to panic and give them one of the most ridiculous excuses for why it was there.

Woman was already on probation when she was stopped

On September 1, deputies stopped 43-year-old Latasha Dawn VBnavides who was riding a bicycle without the proper lights on the back in Wahneta, according to a post by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on its official Facebook page.

As explained by Sheriff Grady Judd in the morning briefing video, the deputies pulled her over to ensure her well-being and that she wasn’t run over. But then the cops looked up Benavides in the system and discovered that she was already on probation for grand theft.

That led the deputies to search her and discover that there was a meth pipe in the pocket of her pants. Flustered, she responded by saying that the pants weren’t actually hers and that she had borrowed the pants from someone else, suggesting that the meth pipe wasn’t hers either.

Judd summarized how the deputies reacted to the excuse: “So the britches you got on don’t belong to you. And the meth pipe in the pocket of your britches that you don’t own belong to the person you borrowed your britches from. Is that correct? Is that what I’ve got?”

Benavides then resisted arrest, which she shouldn’t have done but was at least something Judd understood since she didn’t want to go back to jail. Still, the sheriff wasn’t that sympathetic to the situation: “You’re on probation. You violate the law. You draw attention to yourself. You get to go to jail. It just works that way.”

According to inmate records, Benavides has been charged with resisting an officer without violence, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and several violations of probation. Her total bond amount is $10,000.
