Driver Says He Was Speeding 112 MPH to Find a Bathroom, But Police Found Out the Truth

The excuses that some criminals come up with are so ludicrous that they defy belief. One man who was caught speeding in Arizona told police that he was going well past the 65 mph speed limit because he had a bathroom emergency. But the cop knew better than to believe such a tall tale and investigated the matter further.

Cops discover that the driver had several outstanding warrants

On July 26, a Highway Patrol State Trooper in Mesa, Arizona, spotted a red vehicle going 106 mph in a posted 65 mph zone, according to a post by the AZDPS Highway Patrol on its official Facebook page.

The officer pursued the vehicle, which accelerated to 112 mph, and was eventually able to bring it to a halt. During the traffic stop, the cop approached the unnamed driver, who said that he was speeding because he needed to find a restroom. However, the officer was surprised to hear that excuse, telling him that there were several bathrooms that he passed along his route.

Having heard such a poor excuse, the trooper decided to dig further and uncovered something much more serious in the driver’s history. Not only had he given him a false name, which required the officer to find his real identity through biometric identification, but he had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. The driver had three active state warrants as well as one federal warrant.

He was promptly arrested and later booked at the Maricopa County Jail.

Commenters on Facebook were surprised that the driver was speeding in the first place given how many warrants he had. They were also dumbfounded that he thought that a bathroom excuse would get him out of trouble. One wrote, “When someone would say they were speeding because of a bathroom emergency, I would write the ticket faster.”

Another said that getting arrested is at least a good way to find a bathroom: “He got to use the restroom in Adult Detention pending transfer to State. It’s also not good to lie to DPS.”
