Upcoming Netflix Movies We Have High Hopes For

Netflix has rapidly become the entertainment industry most radical success story, and with the money which started pouring into the company, the executives did something great for both them and fans. They started producing a lot of content. Series mostly, but Netflix movies came soon after. Now, after the success of Beasts of No Nation (2015), which was popular and critically acclaimed both, Netflix movies seem to be on a very fast production line.

It seems like the company has decided to buy the rights for the majority of movies that are either filmmaker’s passion projects, were stuck in development hiatus, have fan-followings already, and are cheap to make. So, mostly dramas and comedies. But Netflix movies are quickly starting to mostly mean movies that are different then what the gigantic movie studios are going for.

Since most of the Netflix movies are released exclusively on Netflix and almost have a guaranteed audience of Netflix marathon runners, it gives the filmmakers a chance to relax and not try pandering to audiences as to increase ticket buys.

Since not all cinema-lovers use and like Netflix as a service, these movies have the potential to be underseen, similar to these films from the 21st century. We wanted to single out these five promising Netflix movies in the hope they match our expectations and also reach a wide audience.

Most Promising Upcoming Netflix Movies

Outlaw King (TBA)

Surely the most promising of the Netflix movies as it is the most ambitious and it backs up the investment by attaching some high-profile names to the project. Firstly, it was written and directed by the talented filmmaker David Mackenzie, credited for unique films like Perfect Sense (2011) and Hell or High Water (2016). Secondly, the movie will be starred by Chris Pine, who seems like he can’t make a wrong choice in recent times, and he will be helped by Aaron Taylor-Johnson alongside numerous actors from Game of Thrones. It’s a period piece set in the 14th-century conflict between the English and the Scottish so Braveheart fans rejoice.

Wheelman (2017)

Frank Grillo is finally getting the opportunity to be the lead man after his notable role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Netflix gave him the perfect role. Wheelman seems like a darker mishmash of Baby Driver and Locke, with great direction, specific darkish cinematography, and great action sequences. The action thriller doesn’t seem like it will be deep, but fast-paced and exciting as they come. Netflix is obviously also putting money on old-school action movies, which the market is lacking.

1922 (2017)

Another movie that is made from a Stephen King story, which is another great Netflix strategy as the writer has a mass following and the movies from his properties are either big hits or big misses. 1922 seems like it is inclined to be more of a success as it doesn’t have some overboard King-like premise, and the photos of Thomas Jane show him completely morphed into the character. One very dark, as he plays a father who conspires with his son to kill his wife for financial gain. It seems like one of the more realistic, grittier Netflix movies than we would expect.

Mute (2017)

Not only is Mute one of the most anticipated Netflix movies for us, it’s also one of the most anticipated movies scheduled for late 2017 in general. Director Duncan Jones’ (Warcraft, Source Code, Moon) passion project has four big names starring in it – Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd, Sam Rockwell, and Justin Theroux. Even without the Hollywood names, the movie looks promising as it has a specific visual identity and an intriguing, unique story about a mute bartender going against gangsters in futuristic Berlin.

Game Over, Man! (2018)

Original Netflix movies consist of a lot of comedies, naturally, as they are not expensive and can easily become huge if the humor hits the spot of many people. But in the case of Game Over, Man! the company is playing on the fanbase of Workaholics as the creators and main characters of the show have roles in this possible cult favorite. The most promising of the Netflix comedy movies that are about to be released as it is leaning on fresher comedians and the plot of a video game developers battling terrorists seems wildly fun. The type of a comedy that delivers on laughs, not lectures and tears.
